Access Protection
Access Control
Access Protection stands for physical protection by means of fences, gates, boom barriers, turnstiles etc. These are all passive types of security. In order to regulate and control (manage) the flow of people and vehicles Access Control Systems, like card readers are needed.
Depending on the level of security and freedom of movement, there is a need for different solutions. E.g. in secure areas each individual must be identified before entry or exit is authorized.
Initially, mechanical systems like key lock systems, covered the need for Access Control Systems. However, developments gradually shifted to Electronic Systems and nowadays further on to Biometric systems.
There are many Access Control Systems in the market and most used are code locks, swipe cards and proximity systems.
EPPA members implement Access Control Systems.
Access Control Systems include:
- Mechanical locks and code locks
- Electrical locks
- Electronic locks
- Card readers (magnetic swipe)
- Proximity readers 0-5 cm
- Vicinity readers nearby to 40 cm
- Hands free up to 70 cm
- Long distance up to 8 m
- Biometric Systems (finger prints, iris scanners, face detection)
