Swing gates often form part of a fencing system within residential, utility, leisure, parking, agricultural and industrial sites. They regulate the passage of pedestrians and/or vehicles. There are single, double and folding swing gate variants. They generally have a passage width of 1 to 15 m and a height of 0.8 to 2.5 m.

The leaves and tubes of swing gates are made of aluminium, steel or profiled stainless steel. The infill of the gate leaves are commonly produced from bar, welded mesh, chain link or can be fully plated.

Swing gates can be manually or power operated: electromechanically or hydraulically. Power operated gates can have the drive either fixed to the gate leaves or they can be subfloor mounted.

When specifying swing gates it is important that consideration is given to the turning circle.
